Comments:
I am currently a post-doc at the Dept. of
Microbiology / Center for AIDS Research at UAB in
Birmingham. Alabama "the Beautiful" is an amazing
place where Old South and Modern Life meet; it is
different from a Stifti's more obvious places of
choice, like Boston or Berkley. If you are in the
Southeast and/or are interested in science and
life in Alabama, contact me. I was a Stifti
throughout my student and doctoral thesis years.

Fields of interest: Philosophy of language, philosophy of science.
I have been working on the philosophy of Hilary Putnam, and written a
dissertation on his conception of the referential use of language; my
advisors are Prof. Habermas (Frankfurt, Northwestern) and Prof. W.K.
Essler (Frankfurt). I expect to receive my degree by July 1999.
Otherwise I've been working on Natural Kind Terms, Goodman's paradox,
problems of underdetermination, the epistemic modalities etc. Other fields
of interest are political philosophy and the theories of film, cinema and
drama (which I've also written on).
I've been teaching at Northwestern as an Adjunct Lecturer and Visiting Scholar
since 1996/7 and I graduated with a Ph.D. in 1999. Currently I am a Visiting Assistant Professor at Northwestern University
If anybody plans to study for a certain term at Northwestern or in the Chicago
area, she or he is invited to contact me with any questions.

I am working towards a dual major Ph.D in mathematics and physics in the Beam
Theory and Dynamical Systems Group at Michigan State. My research field are
numerical methods for the solutions of differential equations and nonlinear
optimization problems.
I will probably complete my degree sometime in 2007, and until then I am
ready to assist with questions concerning graduate studies and student
life in the US in general and at Michigan State in particular.

Currently, I am a resident in Ophthalmology at Montefiore Medical Center of
Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I did two postdoc research fellowships,
one at Columbia University (see my homepage) and one at the Rose Kennedy Center
of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Within the limitations of a full time
residency I work with both labs and will be happy to assist if you are looking
for an entry into ophthalmic research in either institution.

Comments:
Waterloo is 100km West of Toronto, at the same latitude as Florence, Italy.
The Faculty of Mathematics at Waterloo is one of the largest world-wide and
attracts some of the best students in North America.
Since recently, Waterloo is fast becoming one of the major international
centres for Mathematical Physics, helped by the founding in 2001 of the
Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (www.perimeterinstitute.ca) with a private endowment of more than 120 Mio$.
I occasionally accept new graduate students and I offer funding to those who
are accepted. There are also opportunities for 4-month summer research
studentships.

- The physics of information
- Cosmology
- Quantum gravity
